Marketing is a broader domain as compared to Sales, in Sales the job role will purely involve 'Selling' a product or service.

Marketing involves a lot, planning, promotion, strategy, competitor analysis, pricing strategy, location strategy, distribution channels and so on including sales.

Usually Marketing job are given to MBA grads from some premier business schools like IIMs, SP Jain etc. Marketing jobs are few but Sales everyone with proper communication skills and desire to be a Sales Man will be given job.

In sales you sell (only sell), the other things which include in your job profile is tele calling, cash collection and all other non sense which as an MBA you don't want to do. Marketing is more of planning, thinking and attempting to boost the sales of a company.

Sales job is a gateway to start your management career. Once you got experience in Sales and know the ground reality you can be pushed up for higher role.
